What’s in My Bag?

- MacBook with an Apple sticker on top of the Apple logo
- An iPad with no power left
- Chem Lab Notebook
- Safety Goggles for lab
- Empty glasses container because I took the glasses out and never put it back
- 3 pens (2 without ink) and 1 mechanical pencil
- Ice Cubes mint gum
- Half-written Math 111 Exam 1 review pack
- Calculator with 5% battery left
After this exercise, I realized I am not as organized as I think. A lot of the items in my bag are not used every day, but I still keep them inside. For example, my math exam has been a week ago. At the same time, I learned that I have a habit of not charging my devices, so I should probably bring my chargers in the future. The challenging part of this assignment is to decide which items represent my personality best. I excluded my backpack because it took too much of the space and left out some smaller objects that I think do not have as much importance. I think that this is a type of writing because there is a purpose of creating the catalog and a message is conveyed.
Triptych: The Weight-loss Journey
The inspiration for my Triptych came from a conversation I had with my friend a few years ago. He was talking to me about how he thought he lost weight, but turns out his scale was broken and showed a “6” instead of an “8.” Rather than using the exact conversation, I decided to use the word “low” and add some humor with “low battery” and “low weight.” I thought the planning of the Triptych was challenging since I had to minimize the words but convey my idea at the same time. I thought this sketch was different in a way that I had to connect multiple ideas (drawings and dialogues) in a limited space.
To Infinity and Beyond

When I was brainstorming for the pictures I wanted to use, I immediately thought of my home. At around six years old, I saw Taipei 101, the building in this combophoto, for the first time. The moment I lifted my head, I thought the building was endless and extended to the sky. With this memory, I combined the building with a picture of a rocket launching. During the process, it took me more time to find a suitable photo for the rocket launch. Most of the rocket pictures online did not fit with the building’s shape, making the aligning difficult. Luckily, I was able to find a suitable photo. My final image intends to convey the importance of reaching for the limit and exploring the unknown.

Visual Note Taking

For this Sunday Sketch, I made my chemistry lecture into a visual note. This page is mainly on the topic of Wave Particle Duality. The note is divided into two parts, particles and waves. The drawings and notes are all illustrations that demonstrate the explanations of the proofs for why light is both a particle and a wave.
After completing this assignment, I realized it has helped me to visualize the information and keep a better memory in my mind. I better understand information when I look at images instead of words. With these notes, it makes it easier for me to memorize the key concepts. At the same time, I found the process enjoyable, and it had more variety compared to writing notes with only words.
Literacy Narrative Reflection
I enjoyed the freewriting exercise more than I imagined. It has been a long time since I was able to type down random information in whichever way I wanted. Though I only used part of the free-writing in my literacy narrative, I realized the memory I chose was still one of the turning points in the way I read.
After finishing the narrative, I realized my writing style had changed drastically. In the past, I have purposely made changes to my writing, but as I grew older, my style slowly changed without my realization. Throughout the writing process, I tried to type down every idea I had in my mind and attempted to make it flow together in a logical way. This allowed me to pick out the ones I liked and believed would work and eliminate those that I thought were irrelevant to my narrative
In conclusion, I would look forward to more freewriting exercises and discover more about my writing.
AirSalon Pro

On the day I drew this sketch, my roommate just lost his AirPods Pro. As a caring friend, my first reaction was to mock and laugh at him. With this incident, I thought of using my AirPods for the Sunday Sketch. I always thought the earbuds were shaped in a unique way, like a shower head. At the same time, I was planning to find a barber shop for a haircut. Thus, I made the case as the resting pillow that customers lie on while the barber washes the hair. For the rest of the sketch, I included some objects and details that a normal barber shop would have.
Avatar

The avatar is a combination of my character and the difficult topics that will be discussed in class. The blue sky on the top of the avatar indicates my open-minded personality I hope to demonstrate throughout this semester. Since this course explores mature topics, having an open mind is essential for me to dive in the core and understand the essence of these unspoken subjects through the readings. Another aspect of this avatar that represents myself is the maple-colored path. As the avatar shows, the path extends without a clear end. This is meant to display my ambition of exploring the unknown future ahead of me.
The original image was a white wall with no significant drawings, yet, I combined a raising fist using different layers. The fist represents violent topics such as bullying and self harm. The intended effect was to make the raising fist look like a graffiti art, but my lack of technical skills limited my representation of the final product.
